The Murmur of the Unknown

ZAWA ZAWA
1. noisy, clamourous, buzzing, humming; assonant,
making a din
2. teeming, bustling, astir, aggitated, in commotion, alive (with activity)
3. busy, frenetic; lively, hyper(active) [slang]
4. intense, dense; markedly figured

What's that noise? The sixth volume in our NunoNunoBooks series takes its inspiration from the zawa zawa sounds that scratch at the back of the mind, indistinct yet laden with tonal nuances. The fabrics gathered here are a mixed bag of styles and tastes, intensely patterned by diverse processes: rust-dyeing, washi paper-gluing, resin-printing. Also featured are four provocative lyrics by the New York-Brazilian musician Arto Lindsay. New to this volume are fabrics pictured in outdoor settings, as well as detailed "outtake" photos from the Nuno studio and reflections on the creative work "behind the scenes".
Hardcover; 60 pp; ¥2,200.
