Rust-Dyeing: A Workshop
This book documents a Nuno workshop on rust-dyeing conducted in1999 at Taishamachi
near the Grand Shinto Shrine of Izumo at the invitation of architect Toyo Ito, who
wanted to have local citizens participate in creating Decorative hangings for the
new Taisha Cultural Place civic facility he designed. Nuno staff worked together
with local middle school students on the beach using seawater and iron scraps to
create imaginative designs in a day-long workshop.
Text and photographs follow the entire process, planning to finished installation.
