Volume 1 lays out 20 fabrics that exemplify a boro
boro ("raggedy") aesthetic. All have been been subjected to "cruel
and unusual" production processes-roasted over burners, dissolved with acid,
ripped apart, and generally "mistreated." While the boro boro essay by
noted English archaeologist Richard Hodges relates experiences unearthing the "crumbling"
world of the past. The book, of course, stays in one piece.
